Grades 1 and 2: Mrs. Marie Jorkasky

Marie L. Jorkasky is a 1988 graduate of Lock Haven University. She is dual certified in both Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. She did half of her student teaching in Pottstown, PA then flew over to Frankfurt Germany where she finished her student teaching at Rein Mein Elementary School. She then started teaching as a sub for the Altoona/Johnstown Diocese and was hired full time in 1989.

Marie has her Instructional II certificate for teaching and in 1999 was named the Catholic Educator of the Year for the Altoona/Johnstown Diocese. She also is a Master Catechist.

Marie currently teaches first grade at St. Thomas where the curriculum consists of religion, reading, phonics, spelling, English, social studies, science, math, music, physical education, and art.

Marie lives in Altoona. She has two sons who attended Bishop Guilfoyle High School. She loves reading and teaching.
