Mrs. Amy Higgins grew up in Philadelphia, and moved to Bedford when she married her husband, Bill, in June 2001. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central High School of Philadelphia in 1993 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Millersville University in 1997. Amy taught kindergarten in Philadelphia her first year out of college, while also tutoring students after school at a Sylvan Learning Center in Abington. Amy was promoted to be the center’s Director of Education, and was hired to fill the same position at the Sylvan Learning Center in Lavale, MD when she relocated to Bedford. Amy has always enjoyed working with children and fellow teachers in schools, at Sylvan, and through educational church activities.
Amy became a stay-at-home mom when her first daughter was born in December 2004. In addition to raising her three children, Amy has stayed active by tutoring privately in her home, leading group activities at Trinity Lutheran Church’s Faith & Fun (a weekly after school program for all denominations that reinforces bible stories through arts and crafts, science, and games), assisting with Vacation Bible School, and serving as St. Thomas’s Home and School Association President.
Amy joined the St. Thomas School family when her oldest daughter began prekindergarten in August 2009. She currently resides in Bedford Borough with her husband, Bill, and three children, Sara, Caroline, and Billy, who are all enrolled at St. Thomas School.
